Network of stakeholders embarked on a Peace campaign towards Preventing crop and livestock farmers conflicts this year's farming season.
Ahead of this year raining season, Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC), Community Peace Observers (CPOs) in conjunction with the Network of Peace Journalists (NPJ) working to promote ethical values on peaceful conducts among the diverse ethnic and religious group has embarked on a ceaseless campaign.
In a statement made available to the press and signed by Ibrahima Yakubu, the team lead (Network of Peace Journalists) on the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP) program.
These calls became mandatory to avert the yearly conflicts between the crop and livestock farmers which is aimed to promote peaceful coexistence and by preventing conflict between the two groups, during this year's farming season.
The statement appealed to crop and livestock farmers across the country to always live in peace and harmony as this year's rainy season is fast approaching amidst climate change, and other factors related to ecological challenges.
According to him, the call became necessary to avert the yearly conflicts between the two neighbors that have led to loss of lives and millions of properties destroyed.
The crop and livestock farmers conflict has led to nationwide insecurity, which is a great setback on the fight against food insecurity, famine, hunger and high cost of foodstuffs in our markets.
Both crop and livestock farmers have also suffered as casualties of armed attacks and ensuing reprisals attack, have contributed to loss of lives, properties in billions of Naira destroyed.
The statement advocate that there should be regular interface meetings between crop and livestock farmers to help prevent issues related to peace-building, dialogue, and conferences where both parties would be deliberating on ways of preventive conflicts, Network of peace stakeholders embarked on ceaseless campaign towards Preventing farmers-herders conflicts this year farming season.
While commending the efforts of Kaduna Peace Commission and Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC), NGOs and concerned CSO's for their contribution towards promoting peace and resolving conflict, the group appealed to the government to end activities of terrorists and banditry activities in locations in many parts of the country.
The group equally commended the effort of security agencies, parsnip it army and other concerned volunteers for maintaining peace and unity in various communities across the country.
