Nigeria's potentials in yam value chain have the capacity to provide employment and uplift the living standard of millions of people in the country.
The observation was made at a two-day Emergency Training of Climate Resilient Practices in Yam Processing in Kaduna.
The training workshop, organized by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Kaduna Agricultural Development Agency aimed at acquainting the participants with new innovations in yam processing techniques to improve their businesses.
Addressing the participants, a Senior Agric Officer from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hajiya Asma'u Bornoma said the workshop is part of the Ministry's initiatives to improve the living standard of women and youths through yam value chain.
Also, the representative of the Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kaduna State Office, Mrs. Dorothy Aribi described the workshop as timely, urging the participants to make effective utilization of the opportunity.
On his part, the General Manager, Kaduna State Agricultural Development Agency, Dr. Abubakar Bayero who appreciated the organizers of the training said it will help in reducing post-harvest losses which has been the bane of yam production in Nigeria.
Dr. Abubakar Bayero charged the participants to extend the knowledge gain to their respective local government areas so as to achieve the desired result.
The participants were drawn from the Kaduna State Agricultural Development Agency's register from across the twenty-three local government areas of the State.
