The Kwara State government has allocated an additional sum of N1,031,149,451.36 to address the outstanding salary arrears owed to local government workers, basic school teachers, and pensioners from the previous administration. This information was conveyed in a statement signed by the press secretary of the state’s Ministry of Finance, Mr. Babatunde AbdulRasheed.

The statement emphasized the government's ongoing commitment to settling the inherited arrears as financial resources allow. It further highlighted that, starting in January, the government initiated the full payment of 100% CONHESS for health workers at the local government level, along with monthly palliatives of N10,000 per worker and pensioner.

From January 2020 to January 2024, the government has reportedly spent a minimum of N5.5 billion to offset arrears of salary and gratuities for SUBEB teachers, local government workers, and local government pensioners alone. This is in addition to fulfilling its substantial monthly obligations to these groups of workers and others since assuming office in 2019.
