DG NILEST Leads Policy Committee to Minister, Seeks Leather Collaboration

The Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology ,(NILEST) Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, who is also the Chairman of the National Steering Committee on the Implementation of Startegic Plan on Leather and Leather Products Policy Implementation led the National Steering Committee members to the Ministry of Trades and Industry.  

They were received by the Minister of State for Industry Senator John Owan Enoh at his office, in Abuja on Wednesday. 

The Discussions centered on the critical role of the leather industry in Nigeria’s industrialization and economic transformation. 

Speaking at the meeting, the DG said, "Leather Policy Implementation Plan is positioned to drive economic diversification by reducing dependence on oil revenues; promote the export of high-quality leather products to boost foreign exchange earnings; generate employment opportunities across the entire value chain; and empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to ensure inclusive growth."

 "The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment remains committed to supporting the committee’s objectives and ensuring the active participation of affiliated agencies in implementing policies that will unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s leather sector." The Minister Added.
