The Impact Multipurpose Cooperative Society (IMCOOPS), in partnership with Tranquil Way Limited, has successfully convened a high-level sensitization workshop aimed at strengthening cooperative institutions as drivers of sustainable economic growth in Kaduna State.
The workshop, themed Strengthening Cooperative Capacity for Sustainable Economic Growth, took place on Thursday, 18 December 2025, at the Sheikh Ɗahiru Usman Bauchi Hall, Tudun Wada, Kaduna. It attracted cooperative leaders, entrepreneurs, development professionals, policymakers and community stakeholders from across the state.
The gathering created a focused space for dialogue on governance reform, institutional capacity building, financial inclusion, regulatory compliance and practical strategies for building resilient and accountable cooperative societies. Participants examined the growing role of cooperatives in job creation, access to finance, entrepreneurship support and grassroots economic development.
Speaking at the event, the President of IMCOOPS, Hajiya Maryam Ibrahim, urged cooperative leaders to translate the lessons from the workshop into measurable reforms within their organisations. She emphasized the need to strengthen governance frameworks, improve transparency and build structures that can sustain long-term economic impact.
According to her, cooperatives must evolve beyond basic financial support platforms and position themselves as professionally managed institutions capable of attracting partnerships, supporting small businesses and delivering social and economic value to their members and communities.
IMCOOPS commended the high level of participation and the quality of technical contributions made by facilitators and resource persons. The Society noted that the depth of engagement during plenary sessions and interactive discussions reflected a strong collective commitment to strengthening the cooperative sector in Kaduna State.
Participants highlighted persistent challenges facing cooperatives, including weak internal controls, limited access to structured financing, regulatory gaps and low managerial capacity. They also explored practical solutions such as improved record-keeping, standardized governance practices, compliance with cooperative laws and stronger partnerships with private sector and development institutions.
IMCOOPS further acknowledged the strategic support of Tranquil Way Limited and collaborating institutions, whose expertise and facilitation were described as critical to the success of the programme.
In a statement issued after the event, the Director-General of IMCOOPS, Sani Musa Daitu, reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to advancing cooperative development as a tool for inclusive growth and community empowerment.
He said IMCOOPS would continue to champion sustainable entrepreneurship, deepen financial inclusion and build multi-sector partnerships capable of translating workshop resolutions into scalable programmes with measurable impact.
The Society expressed readiness to sustain collaboration with stakeholders and development partners in order to turn the ideas, resolutions and commitments from the workshop into concrete initiatives that improve livelihoods, expand economic opportunities and strengthen cooperative institutions across Kaduna State and beyond.
IMCOOPS described the workshop as a strategic step toward building a more accountable, resilient and economically relevant cooperative sector positioned to support long-term development at the grassroots.
