Southern Kaduna is the primary focus, due to its suitable soil, with some areas in central and northern parts of Kaduna also on board.
Interestingly, cloves and ginger have similar production mechanisms, making it easy for ginger farmers to adapt.
The National Association of Cloves Producers, Processors, and Marketers of Nigeria, Kaduna chapter, is leading the charge.
To kickstart production, 2000 hectares of land have been allocated, with farm inputs like fertilizers, insecticides, and seeds from Tanzania provided.
Farmers are gearing up, and the first meeting has taken place to update members on progress.
Farmers are ready to deliver, pending receipt of necessary inputs by April's cloves plantation period.
If successful, Nigeria could ditch imports and become a quality cloves producer, meeting domestic demand and exporting abroad.
